I heard that Walmart Christmas went to 75% off at midnight.  So I got ready and headed over there after feeding the cats and getting my husband off to work.

So, I'm so excited, but 'darn it' ... they were waxing the floors and I couldn't get to the Christmas stuff.  I wandered around Walmart for about an hour before the floor dried and I could go back to the Christmas stuff.  

They had a LOT of stuff, but not really a lot that I wanted.  I got a bunch of throw blankets (yes, I left some).  Also, there were some candles ringing up 74¢ for the 15 oz and 23¢ for the glass votive size.  I only bought one candle though - just one for my Grandma.  Some of the blankets weren't ringing up on clearance, but the cashier had no problem overriding because they were the ones that had Christmas patterns.

Great deals on Maine lobster ... plus an awesome lobster mac & cheese recipe!

Sure, I'm a penny shopper, clearance shopper, and well I even use coupons - and, yes, I even like deals on lobster!  In fact, good food is really my favorite splurge!  Up until a few years ago, I didn't like lobster at all ... I thought lobsters looked liked giant bugs and wanted nothing to do with them.  Then, I had some seafood boil at my cousin's party and I fell in love with lobster.

So, I'm not even sure how I found this company Get Maine Lobster, but I signed up for their emails and besides their good humor, they have some great specials!  My first order was the lobster rolls.  They had a really good deal and I bought lobster rolls for 18 (not that I needed that much at once, but I figured I could take it out of the freezer when I had a craving.)

I took one batch to my sister's house and we enjoyed lobster rolls for lunch.  I am in love with lobster and since my sister and her family were coming to my house for Solstice dinner this year, I decided to order lobster tails!

Here is my plate from Solstice dinner (lobster tail, lobster mac & cheese - my version made with Get Maine Lobster's frozen lobster, and coleslaw).  YUMMY!

What were your holiday fails this year?

UPDATE:  Ulta has sent me an egift card to make up for the mailed one and also sent me a little something for myself.  Thank you, ULTA for making it right!

My first holiday fail was a gift card that I purchased from Amazon.  A $25 Denny's gift card ... and it arrived with no balance.  Thankfully, Amazon has excellent customer service and they refunded the purchase immediately when I called.

The second holiday fail is an Ulta gift card that I ordered from Ulta.com.  I ordered before the deadline, so I would receive it by the 24th, but although I ordered on the 18th, it only shipped yesterday.  And, they shipped it by Fed Ex 3-day and shows the delivery estimate as Dec 28.

I tried to call their customer serviced number, but after being on hold for a while, I was asked to leave a message or call back another time.  After trying this a couple times, I posted on Facebook and Twitter.  Ulta on Twitter responded for me to send an email, which I did.  I got a canned reply email saying that they will respond within 24 hours.  So, I don't really have any faith in this being resolved to my expectations, but I will update when I find out.

So, there are no new pennies starting today, but there are many other old pennies that you might find if you look hard enough.  Of course, this always depends on how well your store is at getting discontinued items off the floor and if there are other penny shoppers in your area.

"Better safe than sorry" is the cliche that I am going with here. We weren't sure that red dot and back to school were pennying, so we held out until we verified. We were fairly certain Halloween was pennying, so we did report that. I, as well as others, have confirmed that red dot and back to school have also pennied. I have not been out doing a lot of shopping though. Remember that there are always exclusions. The best way to penny shop is by belonging to groups on Facebook and to see what others are getting and what is being included and excluded. Be sure to pay attention to details!
